..one slice of Magic Pie please.
July 11, 2007
I completely love it when bands form their own incredible sound, a sound that is original from each and every member of the band. This has always left a memorable impression on me, and I’m glad to say that my never ending quest to find musicians which do just that continues. I have a passion for prog music, and I think this passion helps me maintain an open mind while exploring a very wide range of musical styles. All the styles of music I’m most interested in can be found in an extraordinary group of musicians from Norway who go by the name of Magic Pie.

When Magic Pie formed in 2001, they entered the scene playing cover songs mixed with some originals. It wasn’t long before they chose to focus on originals only. And that decision was a very good one. The formation of music from each member is brilliant. Each individual is highly experienced in different styles of music and were active in a variety of different projects before Magic Pie began their quest. This band broke through barriers with their own sound, not someone elses.
In 2005 the band released their first CD titled “Motions of Desire” which can be found on Progress Records. It’s an amazing album to say the least. Their follow up to this album was released in April of 2007, called “Circus of Life”. And once again, the band does not disappoint. Both albums will definately appeal to fans of both old and new progressive sounds. It’s the musicianship of Magic Pie that really stands out and catches my attention. The talent of Eirik Hanssen, Gilbert Marshall, Kim Stenberg, Lars Petter Holstad, and Jan T. Johannessen should not be overlooked.
