British Sea Power certainly does. This question is asked of their listeners, and is also the title of their latest release. Do You Like Rock Music? marks the third album from the Brighton England indie band. Although there have been some negative reviews of this album, I’m willing to say that I think it’s a solid release from the guys. I think the overall feedback has been positive, and I’m excited to catch the band on their upcoming tour.

I think the band continues to hold true to their original sounds, which I have always enjoyed since their debut album The Decline of British Sea Power in 2003. If you are unfamiliar with the band, and you enjoy bands such as the Pixies or Joy Division, give their latest album a listen.

They have a nice set of North American tour dates which you can check out below. Their likely to show up in your neck of the woods over the next few months.

Fans of Avenged Sevenfold have the opportunity to attend a free concert by the band on Saturday October 20th, at the Key Club in Hollywood.  The event will take place at 4:00 pm, an odd time, but the band is filming the show for an October 30th broadcast on “The List” at Myspace.  There are no tickets, only a limited amount of fans will be let in.  Oh, and to attend you must be wearing a Halloween costume.  This all coincides with the October 30th release of their new self titled album.

Los Angeles band Great Northern has a nice set of tour dates coming up through the month of October and November. Take a listen to their debut album Trading Twilight for Daylight to familiarize yourself with their solid indie pop rock sounds. Great Northern formed when singer Solon Bixler asked his good friend Rachel Stolte to assist him with the creation of some new tracks. The duo’s musical experimentation produced an amazing outcome of musical anomalies, blending dark moody interpretations with melodic shades of light. Bixler (who used to play guitar with 30 Seconds to Mars) handles the vocals and guitar, Stolte is on keyboard and vocals, Ashley Dzerigian on bass, and Davey Latter on drums. Trading Twilight for Daylight was released in May of 2007 on the Eenie Meenie Records label.

If you are anywhere near Los Angeles or Las Vegas around Halloween time this year, you’ll have the opportunity to see Monsters are Waiting.  The American indie rock band from California will be playing at The Echo in Los Angeles on October 26th, and on Halloween night at the Beauty Bar in Las Vegas for their Halloween Show.  I loved their full length release Fascination, on Retone records, which was released back in 2006.  Their music is loaded with memorable guitar licks, catchy melodies, and strange bit of oddness.  Hey, who said odd wasn’t cool?  I think they rock.  Monsters are Waiting is made up of  Annalee Fery, Eric Gardner, Jonathan Siebels, and Andrew Clark.

Following up with some factual Radiohead news, the band announced that fans can choose what they would like to pay for their new album.  The album will be available to download on October 10th.  The band is currently without a specific record label, so they are free to do what they wish.  Their physical box set will be released in December, so keep an eye out for that one too.  Nice marketing move for the band, this will create a buzz!

..or maybe not. There’s a countdown to some Radiohead details that has created a buzz in cyberspace. A representative for the band has said the website has nothing to do with the band and that the site is a hoax. I’ll leave it up to you to decide weather the website is legit or not. As far as I know the new album will be out in early 2008. Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see what shows up on the site when the countdown is complete.

I really hope the band Counterfeit Disaster puts out some new recordings in the near future.  The stuff I have heard since the band took shape in 2004 is awesome.  They have primarily been a studio band from Kingston New York, made up of Dave Parker, Dave Daw, Kenny Camacho, Zac Shaw, Sean Paul Pillsworth, and Kurt Brown.  I’ve always been a fan of the band Big Wreck, and the music of Counterfeit Disaster has sort of a “Big Wreck” sound to it, which I definitely find appealing.  The band does a fantastic job of mixing their acoustic and electric sounds.

Want some free music? Well before I send you off to download some free mp3s from some really great bands, I’ll share with you  a little info about Seattle based Band of Horses.  There is brilliant music coming from these guys.  The songs are plastered with emotionally driven melodies, perhaps offering a glimpse into our subconscious mind.  Band of Horses came together in 2004, forming from Carissas Wierd, who some of you may be familiar with.  I highly admire the music of Band of Horses.  Give them a few moments of your time to take a listen, and if interested, take the opportunity to see them on tour in support of their latest phenomenal album “Cease to Begin” on Sub Pop Records.  Band members Ben Bridwell, Rob Hampton and Creighton Barrett have worked hard to bring a bit more sophistication to their newest release, and in my opinion have succeeded.

It all began in 1998 for the band Okkervil River.  This band from Austin Texas has created their musical art in such a way that it’s guaranteed to make an impact on their listeners.  Their 4th fourth full length studio album titled “The Stage Names” on the Jagjaguwar label has grabbed some well deserved attention.  Brilliant songwriting goes hand in hand with the band’s ability to perform with sincerity.  You can call Okkervil River an indie rock band, but over the years they have proven they are so much more than that.

Will Sheff takes care of the vocals and guitar, Brian Cassidy on guitar/mandolin/vox, Travis Nelsen on drums, Patrick Pestorius on bass, Seth Warren on various electronics, and Scott Brackett on trumpet and keys, Jonathan Meiburg on vox, keys, and accordian.  The band is currently on the road, so catch them somewhere if you can.

Experimental indie rockers Minus the Bear are getting ready to kick off their tour in support of their newest release “Planet of Ice”, which is a fine release I might add. The band continues to unleash catchy tunes, with more of a serious tone. But that’s not a bad thing, in my opinion. As long as the band has been around, most people who are familiar with the band know them for their crazy but likeable sense of humor. Some may think the band is playing a bit safe with their latest effort, but I actually think they are more “musically” focused. I personally don’t get tired of listening to all the tracks on this album. It’s one of those cds for me that stays in the player for a while, and it’s highly refreshing to still come across new releases that have that replayable factor.
