Band Of Horses, and some free music
September 17, 2007
Want some free music? Well before I send you off to download some free mp3s from some really great bands, I’ll share with you a little info about Seattle based Band of Horses. There is brilliant music coming from these guys. The songs are plastered with emotionally driven melodies, perhaps offering a glimpse into our subconscious mind. Band of Horses came together in 2004, forming from Carissas Wierd, who some of you may be familiar with. I highly admire the music of Band of Horses. Give them a few moments of your time to take a listen, and if interested, take the opportunity to see them on tour in support of their latest phenomenal album “Cease to Begin” on Sub Pop Records. Band members Ben Bridwell, Rob Hampton and Creighton Barrett have worked hard to bring a bit more sophistication to their newest release, and in my opinion have succeeded.
Oh, and of course, the free music information. If you go to the Sub Pop Records website, you can download excellent mp3s and learn more about the bands the label has signed. Do it!

Desoto Jones
August 2, 2007
The band Desoto Jones based out of the Jersey/Philly areas have incorporated some killer rock sounds that I have come to enjoy after giving their songs a good listen. The group is made up of Owen Staszewski on vocals, Adam Staszewski on lead guitar, Justin Staszewski on drums, Ean Kyler on bass, and Chris Gill on guitar and vox. I know they are looking for a label, and I really think the band has awesome potential. They’ve been playing together for several years, and over that time have released a couple EP’s, one which is available at CD Baby. And most recently they are putting overall finishing touches on their newest album which is almost set to be released.
Check out the band if you are in the area of their upcoming shows. I think there are some great things to come for these guys, considering their music is very radio friendly and is plastered with catchy melodies. Hurry up and get over to their myspace page which I have linked below. You can listen to their newest songs at their site.

Portland Oregon band The Twitch
July 26, 2007
Amongst all the gazillion bands labeled emo alternative, there are tons of bands that are really bad. Of course there are some really good ones too. Unfortunately there are more bad than good, but thankfully I am still able to find some great sounding bands while filtering all the not so good ones. One of the better ones I recently gave a listen to is a band based out of the Portland Oregon area called The Twitch. Though primarily guitar driven, the vocals are strong, sometimes reminding me of one of my favorite bands Incubus. The band was formed back in 2004 and has made a nice impact on the Portland music scene, and I’m not suprised. The songs on their 2006 debut EP “Control” each have their own distinct offering, and really display the raw talent of each band member. The Twitch is made up of Lucas Worley on guitars and vox, Nick Wiltgen on drums, Ryan Miller on guitar, and Darren Jones on bass. I suggest visiting their myspace page and give them a listen. Their EP is available at CD Baby.
