Gritty Blues from Kilborn Alley
July 5, 2007
Got the blues in your soul? Well make room for some more, and give it up for The Kilborn Alley Blues Band. This group of Chicago blues musicians don’t mess around, and their music will tell you straight up what it’s all about. Their blues is so gritty it’ll absorb you in no time, and let me tell you, that’s a good thing.

The band consists of Andy Duncanson(vocals, guitar), Chris Breen(bass), Josh Stimmel(guitar), Joe Asselin(harmonica), and Ed O’hara(drums). These guys all form some of the finest distinct blues sounds I have heard, and have been influenced by the best during their lifetime, and are now an influence to others. There’s not much more I can say, other than tell you to listen to them.

Soulful Funk from The Budos Band
June 30, 2007
It’s never too late to get your funky groove on. Or so I have been told.. but my recent discovery of a large group of musicians from Staten Island New York called The Budos Band have clearly defined their own funky grooves. It shouldn’t take a lot to appreciate good music when you hear it, and Budos Band makes it easy for listeners. Their brand of instrumental soul inspired afro beat music gets the job done.
From the percussion beats of bongos, congas, cowbells and claves to the strong horn section led by trumpets, and a saxaphone, everything is covered. The Budos Band has a self titled release which will soon be followed by a new album simply titled “The Budos Band II”. This album is set to be released on August 7th, 2007. Both are available on Daptone Records. You can find a couple 45s that the group has released as well.
