I haven’t mentioned any rockabilly or swing music recently, so I thought I’d mention The Mighty 18 Wheeler. Those of you familiar with the best rockabilly in the industry probably have heard about these guys, and if you haven’t, well…you heard about them know. Recently their music has more of an edge to it, and could even be an introduction to metalbilly. Sounds goofy, I know. But the music is fantastic. Imagine if Brian Setzer joined AC/DC, you got Mighty 18 Wheeler.

The Mighty 18 Wheeler - Band PhotoThe guys are no stranger to the music scene. Smokin’ guitars and vocals come from Bobby Smith. Bobby previously belted out tracks with Jumpin Jimes, one of my absolute favorite rockabilly groups. I’ll write up a little bit about that particular band in the near future. Bobby is awesome, he adds the perfect elements necessary to make their music complete. Covering the upright bass and vocals in the Mighty 18 Wheeler is Jimmy Kolodziej. And of course on the drums is Gt Skragg, a very familiar name to the local Denver music scene.

Simply put, this group of musicians know how to jam. So go put on your rockabilly shoes and start listening to The Mighty 18 Wheeler.

The Mojo FarmersThe Mojo Farmers is a fine group of musicians you may be familiar with if you are in the Southwest part of the United States.  Their unique style of music has been heard since the year 2000, when the band formed in Tempe Arizona.  They blend funk, blues, modern, and psychedelic rock to create the perfect jam band experience.  The Mojo Farmers have been quite active over the past few years, playing out extensively across the southwest part of the country, as well as Utah, Texas, and Colorado.  The band has two full length CDs in their collection. and it’ll be great to hear more material from these guys in the future.  They have an awesome gig lined up in Tempe, opening up for Rusted Root on July 11th.  I’ve listed a few other upcoming shows below.  Go on, get groovy with the Mojo Farmers.

Got the blues in your soul? Well make room for some more, and give it up for The Kilborn Alley Blues Band.  This group of Chicago blues musicians don’t mess around, and their music will tell you straight up what it’s all about.  Their blues is so gritty it’ll absorb you in no time, and let me tell you, that’s a good thing.

The band consists of Andy Duncanson(vocals, guitar), Chris Breen(bass), Josh Stimmel(guitar), Joe Asselin(harmonica), and Ed O’hara(drums).  These guys all form some of the finest distinct blues sounds I have heard, and have been influenced by the best during their lifetime, and are now an influence to others.  There’s not much more I can say, other than tell you to listen to them.

I have a very special place in my heart and soul for the blues. Most likely because I’ve been playing guitar myself for quite some time. It’s kind of hard not to enjoy the amazing soul filled style of the blues when you have a guitar in your hands. Weather you are someone young first discovering the power of blues greats such as Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, or BB King, or if you are someone who has been living your life quite some time living and breathing the blues, you both have something in common. You will enjoy the power of Joe Bonamassa.

I first heard Joe play guitar in the band Bloodline, he was only in his teens when he was part of that project. I instantly knew that this kid could seriously play the blues. The Bloodline song “Stone Cold Hearted” was in my CD player for a really long time. His style of today is compared to Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Johnny Lang. To me, Joe’s style of the blues is unforgettable. If you haven’t already, please give him a listen.
